December is a busy time for all who celebrate Christmas, but add a birthday, a retreat, and a restaurant and you’ve got pure craziness!
We have a family rule. The tree goes up the day after Thanksgiving, but no presents can be placed under the tree until after December 10, which just happens to be the birthday of our sweet Charis. Normally her birthday is overshadowed by our annual retreat. I don’t think she minds too much. That just usually means two parties. ☺
For retreat this year, we went to a beautiful ski resort in Chang Bai. (This is the mountain believed to be the birthplace of the Korean and Han Chinese people. It is also the mountain that separates China from enKay.)
We didn’t ski…it was much too cold for me, but others in our group braved the wind. We enjoyed the indoor pool, kids play area, amazing food, great conversation, and of course a little time playing in the snow.
We arrived home tired but happy and refreshed.
Now time to gather friends and wish Charis a very wonderful 14th birthday.
There is a sound burned in my mind and felt in my heart. It is truly one of the greatest sounds in the world. It is the laughter and giggling of happy girls, no matter their age. And on this special night, it was heard in abundance.
In these busy, crazy days, I’m thankful for special moments that are pure joy.
