How Many Kings

It seems too good to be true. The God of the universe, Creator of all that is, Ruler of every nation, He loves you and me. And, not just with words. His love was demonstrated long before we even knew we needed it. While we were still in rebellion against God, in the midst of our disregard for Him, He showed us love. His plan was put into place so that we might have a relationship with Him.

Grace, mercy, forgiveness, and love all combine together to become the heart of the Christmas story. We are unworthy, in and of ourselves, but God still says, “I choose to love you.” Our value is not in who we are or in what we have accomplished, but rather just because we are His creation.

Follow the star to a place unexpected
Would you believe, after all we’ve projected,
A child in a manger?
Lowly and small, the weakest of all
Unlikeliest hero, wrapped in his mother’s shawl –
Just a child –
Is this who we’ve waited for? ’cause…

How many kings step down from their thrones?
How many lords have abandoned their homes?
How many greats have become the least for me?
And how many gods have poured out their hearts
To romance a world that is torn all apart
How many fathers gave up their sons for me?

Bringing our gifts for the newborn Savior
All that we have, whether costly or meek
Because we believe.
Gold for his honor, and frankincense for his pleasure
And myrrh for the cross he will suffer
Do you believe?
Is this who we’ve waited for?

All for me…
All for you…

With all of His glory, all His power, He choose to confine Himself, for a time. He placed Himself in a fleshly prison. He chose to live the life of a servant. He chose to bear our sins, our wrongs, and take our punishment. All of this because of His great love for us. All this love isn’t forced on us, but rather freely offered. I hope this season is a time of celebrating and basking in God’s great love for us and demonstrating that love to others.
